Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about finding the right cartridge, how our compatible products compare to OEM, shipping, payment, and returns. If your question is not here, email us and we will answer it.

Products and compatibility

How do I find the right cartridge for my printer?

Search your printer model or the cartridge number in the search bar at the top of the page – for example “TN660”, “HP 61XL”, or “Brother MFC-L2750DW”. Every product page lists the printers that cartridge fits, so you can confirm before you buy.

You can also browse by brand or by category: toner, ink, drum units, label tapes, MICR, and bulk ink.

If you cannot find your model, email sales@printertoner.us with the exact model number printed on the front of your printer and we will identify the right cartridge for you.

Are compatible cartridges as good as OEM cartridges?

For everyday printing, most people cannot tell the difference. Our compatible cartridges are new units built to the same physical and electronic specification as the original, and every product is tested for print quality and page yield before we sell it.

Where OEM still tends to hold an edge is colour-critical work – photography, proofing, and design output where exact colour matching matters. For text documents, invoices, shipping labels, and general office printing, a good compatible cartridge performs to the same standard at a fraction of the price.

What is the difference between compatible and remanufactured cartridges?

Compatible cartridges are newly manufactured by a third party to fit and perform like the original. Nothing in them has been used before.

Remanufactured cartridges start life as genuine empty cartridges. They are collected, cleaned, stripped of worn components, rebuilt with new parts, refilled, and tested.

Both are non-OEM alternatives and both carry our 12-month warranty. Each product page states which type you are buying.

Will using a compatible cartridge void my printer’s warranty?

No. In the United States, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty simply because you used a third-party consumable. To deny a claim, they would have to show that the cartridge actually caused the fault. Canadian consumer protection law works along similar lines.

In practice, printer manufacturers honour warranty claims on printers that have used compatible cartridges. If you are ever told otherwise, ask the manufacturer to demonstrate how the cartridge caused the specific problem.

Do your cartridges work with chip-enabled printers?

Yes. Products listed “with chip” ship with a compatible chip already installed, so your printer recognises the cartridge and reports toner levels as normal.

One thing worth knowing: printer manufacturers sometimes push firmware updates that stop third-party chips being recognised. We keep pace with these changes, but if you want to understand how it works, we wrote about it here – Printer Firmware Updates and Compatible Cartridges.

Are high-yield (XL) cartridges worth buying?

If you print regularly, yes. A high-yield cartridge costs more up front but prints substantially more pages, which brings your cost per page down – often significantly.

If you print only occasionally, a standard-yield cartridge can make more sense, since ink and toner sitting unused for long periods is not ideal either.

What products do you sell besides toner and ink?

Alongside toner and ink cartridges we stock drum units, label tapes, MICR cartridges for cheque printing, bulk ink, and multi-colour combo sets that work out cheaper than buying each colour separately.

We supply consumables for HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, Xerox, Lexmark, Ricoh, Kyocera, Samsung, Konica Minolta, Dell, Pantum, and Brady.

Ordering and payment

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit and debit cards, plus PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay where your device supports them. Other local options may appear at checkout depending on where you are.

Full details are in our Payment Policy.

When is my card actually charged?

Payment happens in two stages. When you place the order, your bank reserves the amount – this is an authorisation, not yet a charge, which is why you may see a pending amount that has not left your account.

The payment is captured, and appears properly on your statement, when your order is prepared for shipping. For pre-orders and backorders we delay capture until the item ships and email you first.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. The site uses industry-standard SSL encryption, and payments are handled by PCI DSS compliant third-party processors. We never store your full card details on our servers.

Do you offer discounts for bulk or business orders?

Yes. We offer competitive pricing on volume purchases and business accounts. Email sales@printertoner.us with the cartridge models and quantities you need and we will put together a quote.

If you would prefer a different payment method for a large or corporate order, tell us and we will let you know what we can arrange.

Shipping and delivery

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Shipping is a flat USD $13 per order to any address in the United States or Canada, shown at checkout before you pay.

Our daily cutoff is 4:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday. Orders placed before it begin processing the same business day; orders after it start the next business day. Processing takes up to 48 hours, then:

  • United States – 3 to 6 business days in transit
  • Canada – 3 to 5 business days in transit

Transit time starts the day your order ships, not the day you place it. Full details in our Shipping Policy.

How do I track my order?

When your order ships we email a confirmation containing your tracking number, the carrier handling it, and a direct link to track the package.

If that email has not arrived, check your spam or promotions folder before contacting us – it is the most common reason people think an order has not shipped.

My package has not arrived. What should I do?

Carriers do not treat a shipment as lost until 15 business days have passed since the shipping date, so delays shorter than that usually resolve on their own.

If your order has not arrived 15 business days after shipment, email sales@printertoner.us with your order number. We will open a claim with the carrier and work with you on a resolution.

Will I have to pay customs duties or import fees?

Usually not. Sales tax in the US, or GST/HST in Canada, is calculated at checkout and included in your total where the law requires it.

One exception: if an item is not in stock in our U.S. warehouse, we may ship it from our Canadian facility. Shipments crossing into the United States can be assessed import duties or taxes by customs or the carrier. Those charges are the recipient’s responsibility and are not collected by us at checkout.

Returns, refunds, and warranty

Do your cartridges come with a warranty?

Yes. Our compatible toner and ink cartridges carry a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects. If a cartridge is faulty within that period, you choose either a free replacement or a full refund.

We provide a prepaid return shipping label for defective products, so a warranty claim costs you nothing. See our Return Policy for the full terms.

Can I return a cartridge I have not opened?

Yes. Unopened, sealed items can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, as long as the original packaging is intact and the product is in resalable condition. We provide a prepaid return label for these too.

I ordered the wrong cartridge. Can I return it?

Email sales@printertoner.us with your order number and we will tell you what options are available.

Return shipping or restocking fees may apply when an item was ordered in error, but we will always tell you the exact amount before you approve the return – nothing is deducted without your agreement.

How do I start a return?

Email sales@printertoner.us with your order number, the items you want to return, the reason, and photos or a short video if the item is defective. Photos help us process defective claims faster.

We reply with return instructions and a prepaid label if your return is eligible, then inspect the item when it arrives and confirm your replacement or refund. Please contact us before sending anything back, so we can match your parcel to your order.

How long does a refund take?

Once your refund is approved we issue it within 10 business days, to the original payment method used at checkout. Your bank or payment provider may need extra time to post the funds to your account.

You will get an email confirmation as soon as the refund has been sent. Full details are in our Refund Policy.
